Summer Camp – Playing for Change Dayton
June 10 – June 21
Camp Site: Greater Dayton Recreation Center
This will be a two-week camp bringing urban youth together to make music. Through the Playing for Change Dayton program, young people will learn to play instruments, write songs, play in groups and create music videos. Empathy-based curriculum strategies will foster the process. The project will promote multicultural music-making as a common language for peace. Partners include the City of Dayton, Michael & Sandy Bashaw, Burundian Cultural Education Association and others TBA.
Culture Builds Community at the Cityfolk Festival
June 28 – 30
The final culminating performance of the final Mosaic City Artist residences that were staged during the year under the umbrella of Culture Builds Community is celebration of the amazing sights, sounds and movement that come from collaboration and a shared sense of community. Rather than re-create those past sensations, we are bringing together collaborators from all of the residency periods to create original performative collaborations in music, dance and spoken word that can only be seen and shared at this year’s Cityfolk festival. A reconfiguring of the tiles that make up our Mosaic City.
