Back in the 1970s, the Katie Laur Band was a mainstay of the thriving southwest Ohio bluegrass scene, playing clubs, concerts, major festivals in Ohio and Kentucky and holding court at Aunt Maudie's Country Garden in Cincinnati. One of the very few bluegrass bands of the time that was led by a woman, the Katie Laur Band recorded three bluegrass albums on Vetco—Cookin' with Katie, Good Time Gal and Misbehavin'—showcasing Laur's powerful, blues-tinged singing and her distinctive approach to modern bluegrass. In 1997, Laur recorded Main Street, a salute to the bluegrass history and tradition of Cincinnati. To commemorate Laur being honored at this festival with an Ohio Heritage Fellowship, Cityfolk is proud to present the Katie Laur Band which includes four longtime friends, banjo master Tony Ellis (who has also been a recipient of an Ohio Heritage Fellowship), Larry Nager on bass (who was instrumental in putting this band together) rhythm guitarist and singer Ma Crow and mandolinist and singer Brad Meinerding.
