Based out of Covington, the Northern Kentucky Brotherhood Singers are among the very few remaining Quartet style groups that still perform in the old-school acappella fashion. The Singers, which consist of Eric Riley, Ric Jennings, Greg Page, Shaka Tyehimba & Stace Darden, specialize in the intricate and emotional four-part harmony "jubilee" style pioneered by such legendary groups as the Dixie Hummingbirds. the Golden Gate Quartet and the Soul Stirrers.
The Northern Kentucky Brotherhood Singers started singing at the 9th Street Baptist Church in Covington. The group has performed in churches and secular music venues throughout the U.S., as well as in Canada, Switzerland, Italy, France, Portugal and have toured Spain 13 times with two more scheduled tours in September and December, 2008. Television credits by the group include a performance on the Kentucky Educational Television series Jubilee, several appearances on KET's In Performance at the Governor's Mansion, NKY Magazine with Nancy James on ICN-6, Nationally Televised Cincinnati Reds games and the Fox 19 morning show several times. The Northern Kentucky Brotherhood Singers, formerly the only a cappella group in the Kentucky State Folk Arts Program of the Kentucky Arts Council, has recorded four very popular CDs: Wade in the Water, Just A Closer Walk, When The Gates Swing Open and most recently (in stock) is called 20th Anniversary Live! in 2007. |
