The
Sinclair
Community College Culinary Arts Program, a division
within the college’s Hospitality Management Department,
offers students a combination of technical, business and
general support courses to earn an associate degree in
Applied Science and become certified cooks, chefs and
foodservice management professionals. Students learn and
work in the school’s culinary labs, which include
four kitchen areas (production, demonstration, baking
and pastry), in a very hands-on atmosphere that stresses
the development of a variety of skills from cake decorating
to computer systems to bar management.
An important but not very well-known
component of Sinclair’s Culinary Arts Program
is the Tartan Terrace Restaurant, at the corner of Fifth
and Perry Streets in downtown Dayton. Open for both
lunch and dinner most of the year (lunch only in summer),
the Tartan Terrace is both a learning lab in which students
gain real-world experience and a fine dining facility
open to the public.
