Ohio’s
largest indoor fish hatchery,
Freshwater Farms of Ohio is a vertically integrated
hatchery, grow-out, processing, marketing and retail operation
located on U.S. 68 in Urbana. Farm-raised rainbow trout,
largemouth bass, yellow perch, bluegill, channel catfish
and other fish can be purchased in various sizes for pond
stocking, and farm staff can provide expert advice on
pond setup and maintenance. The Freshwater Farms operation
is intended to be a one-stop source for aquaculture and
pond equipment and supplies.
Open year round, Freshwater Farms offers
activities for the family including trout feeding, a
sturgeon petting zoo and farm tours, where visitors
can see several poultry, hog and cattle barns that have
been converted into successful indoor aquaculture operations.
Its Farm Market features fresh and smoked trout, caviar,
gourmet foods, locally made jams and jellies, maple
syrup and more. The farm also has an online store selling
many of the same products.
