Maya Tech
Founded in Bellbrook in 2004, Maya Tech Learning Centers, Inc. (MTLC) is a non-profit educational organization working both in Guatemala and the U.S. Using the proceeds from “fair trade” fundraisers and “informal sales,” MTLC has established a community learning center in rural Guatemala that includes a library, computer lab and education program offering classes in technology and leadership. Students at that learning center have prepared a photographic display project for this festival about their culture and food.

Here in the U.S., Maya Tech promotes understanding of the culture of Mayan Guatemala through educational presentations at festivals, schools and community events. The organization has represented Guatemala for the past three years at “A World A’Fair,” the annual international cultural festival in Dayton. At the Cityfolk Festival, MTLC volunteers will demonstrate how to make corn tortillas, display such food-related items as Mayan grinding stones and handmade ceramic cookware and offer informational literature.
