Housed
in a renovated railroad freight house in downtown Dayton,
the National
City Second Street Public Market combines the charm
of an early 1900s general store with the comforts and
conveniences of a modern grocery. This unique public market
is open three days a week (Thursday - Saturday) year round
and houses more than 50 vendors selling locally produced
meats, eggs, flowers, vegetables, and fruits, as well
as homemade baked goods, handcrafted gifts, and specialty
imported items from around the world.
A Five Rivers MetroParks facility, the National City Second
Street Public Market has been at its current location
in the Market District of Webster Station since November
2001. The Market (which operated as the Wegerzyn Farmer’s
Market for 26 years) hosts artist demonstrations, wine
tasting, and product sampling every Saturday. Hungry gourmands
can also eat breakfast and lunch on Saturdays at the market,
with a diverse vendor-cooked menu ranging from down-home
to continental.
