Singer/songwriter Peter
Rowan and guitar ace Tony
Rice are two of the towering figures of modern bluegrass.
In what Relix magazine calls “a musical
marriage made in heaven,” the veterans have joined
forces in one of the most popular new bands in bluegrass.
Since starting his career as one of Bill Monroe’s
Blue Grass Boys, Rowan has played in such groups as
Earth Opera, Old and In the Way and the Rowan Brothers
and released several great albums as a solo artist.
Hailed as the most influential bluegrass guitarist of
his generation, Rice was a key member of J.D. Crowe
and the New South, the David Grisman Quintet and the
Bluegrass Album Band. The Rowan and Rice quartet—which
includes the superb instrumentalists Bryn Davies (bass)
and Sharon Gilchrist (mandolin)—has just released
its debut on Rounder, Quartet. Rowan and Rice previously
collaborated on You Were There for Me (2004).
