Led by Irish button accordion
virtuoso David Munnelly, who’s toured and recorded
with the Chieftains and DeDanann, the award-winning
David
Munnelly Band is one of the hottest new bands on
the traditional Celtic music scene. Based in County
Mayo, Ireland, the exciting sextet combines button accordion,
fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, bodhrán and
flute for a high-spirited instrumental sound colored
with a bit of jazz and ragtime, topped with the singing
of All-Ireland champion Shauna Mullen and the extraordinary
percussive dancing of Nic Gareiss, a brilliant young
dancer from Michigan. “The Irish band to see”
(Irish Voice) has won special acclaim for incorporating
the sound and feel of the Irish-American dance halls
of the 1920s and 1930s and such bands from that era
as the Flanagan Brothers with its traditional Mayo roots.
In addition to Munnelly’s recordings, Swing
and By Heck, the band has an album slated for
release this year.
