Locally grown and internationally known, Rhythm In Shoes is one of the premier traditional music and dance ensembles in the U.S. The Dayton-based company—formed in 1987 by dancer-choreographer Sharon Leahy and musician-songwriter Rick Good—has toured extensively throughout the U.S as well as in Ireland, Canada and Japan. Dance Magazine describes Rhythm In Shoes as “intelligent, tasteful and provocative…an unexpected treat”; The Village Voice also likes the company, hailing its work as “really smart stuff.” With its highly entertaining fusion of traditional and modern dance, old-time country stringband music, high-energy foolishness and a recreated version of vaudeville, Rhythm In Shoes has performed numerous times for Cityfolk over the years (in concert and at festivals), as well as at Dayton’s Centennial of Flight Celebration, in Rambleshoe, a collaboration with the Red Clay Ramblers, and an annual Christmas show that has become an eagerly anticipated holiday tradition in the Miami Valley.
