Founded by New York accordion virtuoso
Rob
Curto, Forró For All plays the highly irresistible
dance music of northeastern Brazil known as forró
pé de serra, an energetic blend of Afro-Brazilian
percussion and European dance music of the late 1800s,
specifically polkas, waltzes and mazurkas. Using the
traditional instruments of forró, the
accordion, triangle and zabumba, a large bass
drum, as well as electric bass, the four-string cavaquinho,
various percussion instruments and violin, “America’s
finest purveyors of forró…combine
a wildly imaginative jazz sensibility with obvious reverence
for traditional Brazilian get-down sounds and the fusion
is exhilarating” (San Francisco Bay Guardian).
The New York-based band, which includes such top musicians
from Brazil and the U.S. as Pedro Ramos, Mike LaVelle
and Rogerio Boccato, has performed at major world music
and accordion festivals throughout the world and released
its debut CD, Forró For All, in 2006
to widespread critical and fan acclaim.
