Cityfolk’s Jazz Piano Masters series begins with a rare solo concert by one of the best equipped pianists in modern jazz, Stanley Cowell. From his roots in Toledo to collaborations with Charles Tolliver, Max Roach and Sonny Rollins to his creative solo career, Cowell’s music has been defined by integrity and taste. With an agile left hand and a relentlessly imaginative approach to standards and his own compositions, his solo concerts are events to be savored.
