Friday, February 22, 2008 - 8PM
Antioch College Main Building - Kelly Hall
General admission seats: $10
Before the world came to know the music of Cuba through The Buena Vista Social Club, saxophonist Jane Bunnett and her husband, trumpeter Larry Cramer were exploring the music of the island and fusing it to the deep tradition of jazz. A two-time Grammy Award nominee and Juno Award winner, Bunnett has turned her band into a showcase of the finest musical talent from Canada, the United States and Cuba. While the infectious rhythms of Cuba are a particular specialty, Jane Bunnett and the Spirits of Havana explore beautiful melodies from all over the world. The New Jazz Review has praised her for "blending a panoramic approach to Cuban folkloric traditions and the fire of American jazz," while carving out "a unique place in the pantheon of current Caribbean music." Part of a three day series of workshops and community events in Yellow Springs.
Made possible with support from the Morgan Family Foundation. |
