As part of its 2007-2008 Season, Cityfolk will conduct workshops with jazz trumpeter Terell Stafford, pianist Bruce Barth and bassist Derrick Hodge for students at Stivers School for the Arts, Cleveland School for the Arts and Wogoman Elementary School on February 15 and 16. Workshops and community events in the village of Yellow Springs, Ohio will focus on the music of Cuba and Brazil with the members of saxophonist Jane Bunnett’s Spirits of Havana and accordionist Rob Curto and the Sinfona Project. Workshops and performances will be held at McKinney Middle School, Yellow Springs High School, Antioch College in Yellow Springs and Central State University in Wilberforce.
Included in the events for the Bunnett residency will be an opening reception held on the evening of February 20 at 7:30 PM in South Hall of Antioch College featuring Bunnett’s band held in conjunction with an opening showing of photographs of Cuba by Antioch College professor of photography Dennie Eagleson. A showing of the documentary film about one of Jane Bunnett and Larry Cramer’s explorations of the island, Cuban Odyssey will be shown at Antioch College a week prior to the band’s arrival in Yellow Springs.
