Founded by New York accordion virtuoso
Rob
Curto, Rob Curto's Sanfona Project plays the highly irresistible
dance music of northeastern Brazil known as forró
pé de serra, an energetic blend of Afro-Brazilian
percussion and European dance music of the late 1800s. In addition to Curto playing accordion, Rob Curto’s Sanfona Project includes vocalist and dancer Liliana Araújo, drummer and percussionist Scott Kettner and electric bassist Mike Lavalle. “America’s
finest purveyors of forró…combine
a wildly imaginative jazz sensibility with traditional Brazilian get-down sounds” (San Francisco Bay Guardian).
Introduced to Dayton-area audiences at the 2007 Cityfolk Festival,
Rob Curto's band will also conduct workshops for students in Yellow Springs.
